RTBTCKI The Eleven Days before Christmas Edition

Yes folks, it is less than two weeks to Christmas. Hard to believe isn't it? Where did the year go?

Peter and I braved the Malls to go to Macy's last night. Why Macy's you may ask. Well it has to do with an elephant. Every year Macy's produces a stuffed toy for Christmas. You use to have to spend x number of dollars to purchase the toy. Now you can just purchase the toy. They have had a Christmas Kermit, the Cat in the Hat, Grover, and a number of other characters over the years usually tied in somehow with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

This year it was Horton from Dr. Seuss' "Horton hears a Who" and "Horton hatched an Egg". He is beautiful and very true to the original character. He comes with a clover and a very small version of "Horton hears a Who". Why did we go for the elephant? Peter has been reading to Caroline from Your Favorite Seuss: A Baker's Dozen by the One and Only Dr. Seuss by Dr. Seuss and Molly Leach and her favorite story recently has been "Horton hears a Who". A friend of the family told Peter about the plush Horton and we decided to see if our local Macy's had one.

I will say with the economic downturn, it is a heck of a lot easier to find a parking place at the Malls these days. We also went during the dinner hour so that might be a factor as well. Our concern was that the toy was going to be at the Manhattan Macy's only, which has been the case for some toys like the Muppets from OZ toys. Peter tried to call the store but no one seem to know anything about anything and it was getting to the point that it would be faster to go to the Mall and look. So we did and walked in to see Horton looking at us. We picked him up and then went to try to find Caroline some more socks. It took much longer to find the socks than to find Horton. We also pick a couple of items up for the kids for Christmas and Hanukkah.

I am almost ready for the next set of Holidays. I swear that the end of the calendar year seems to be loaded with various things to celebrate. We go quickly from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas/Hanukkah/Yule. As a kid, I thought the time between each holiday dragged on and on but as an adult I seem to blink and it is the next holiday. I guess time does speed up when you get older.

We still have a couple weeks of football left and right now a lot of things are going down to the wire. Some teams we know are in but there are a lot of teams out there who still have a shot at that brass ring. Jets and Giants have some rather important games today. I think that the Jets game is more important of the two. If they lose this one, then I think they are done for the year. They need this one after last week's loss. They can't continue to count on the Dolphins and the Patriots losing to get them in. And will the Lions just bottom out this year?

I am grateful for weather that I can get the decoration out in without freezing too much.
