RIP Patrick Roberts former Art Director at DragonCon

I found this in my inbox yesterday from John and Anne Parise who are the current DragonCon Art Directors

Hello Everyone,

This evening, my wife and I received a call informing us of some very sad news. Felicia Roberts told us that earlier today, after spending the afternoon with his son Derrick at a school play, Patrick Roberts collapsed and shortly after passed away. The details have not been disclosed as of yet, but the doctor's assumption at this point is a heart attack. We think there may be an autopsy sometime by the end of the week to verify the cause of death. Felicia does not have immediate plans at this point other than being strong for their son.

When we have more information, we will post it. Please remember Patrick and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Patrick has been a driving force for Fandom and the DragonCon Art Show these many years. He has always had big ideas and passion about all things Fandom and Art. The DragonCon Art Show is the Show it is today because of his hard work and dedication. We will miss his ridiculous analogies, his loud laugh and outrageous ideas. He lived life head on and never apologized for it. We will miss him.

Patrick was one of those larger than life fans who had a passion for both Art and Fandom. He took the DragonCon Art show to new heights while working on his Phd which is no mean feat. He ran the SFFHS_ArtShows group on Yahoo which considering the varied opinions and people on that board showed he has the patience of a saint.

It was Patrick who convinced me to submit to the Art Show. He liked my portfolio and thought that my artwork would add to the show. He is the one who introduced me to the Yahoo group which I have learned so much from. We always had great fun talking about art, fandom, his family, my family, or another subject that came to mind. He was cool in a crisis either real (some items needed for the art show were missing from the warehouse) or imagined (someone on the Art show board was feeling picked on by the group). He had a great laugh that if you heard it, you knew that he was in the room or close to the room (And I am talking the main room for the Art Show at DragonCon).

I don't think that the art show would be the success it is today if it were not for Patrick.

I will miss him.

He is survived by his wife Felicia, his children, Derek and Nicole, and his parents, Patricia and Jim Roberts.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. This was totally unexpected and the family has a lot to deal with all of the sudden.

I am grateful for Patrick and his family.

Happy Birthday Bill Ritch!

You can blame Bill for much of my love of Doctor Who and a lot of other British series he introduced me to.

Happy Birthday Bill. I hope you are having a great day.
