It was a quiet birthday which was fine by me. I think I finally caught up on my sleep from DragonCon. I ate lunch at one of my favorite local restaurants and picked a good time because the owner who we haven't seen in ages was there. She and her husband are working towards retiring and are building a home to retire to. She hadn't seen Caroline in about 6 months and was amazed how much she has grown. It was a nice visit and a good lunch.
Later in the afternoon we took Caroline to her hearing appointment. We needed to get her hearing tested for a variety of reasons and the place we went came highly recommended for toddler screening. She had an appointment next week but they had an opening and we took it. She passed with flying colors so now we have an official piece of paper that her hearing is fine. One less thing to worry about. She even reacted to sounds in the higher register that I could hear fine but the others couldn't. I had a hard time not looking at where the sound was coming from. I didn't want to clue Caroline into where to look. My hearing is apparently still pretty good too.
Football starts this weekend. I haven't been keeping up with the preseason games which now apparently have some meaning to the season. I thought they were just scrimmage with another team. Jets and Giants look pretty even this year. I can't tell if either is going to make it to the playoffs or possibly both. Mets are going down the tank. I so want them to finish at least ONE game above 500. The Yankees seem to see a glimmer of hope but unless they become a consistent team I have a feeling that they are sitting out of the playoffs this year.
Things have been so busy and are continuing to be busy that I haven't really had the time to reflect on my birthday that I usually take. I might get a chance tomorrow but I am not holding my breath. Maybe that is a good thing or maybe not.
Tomorrow Ariel and I (along with some of her friends maybe) are going to the New York Renaissance Faire. Peter is going to pass this year due to 3 deadlines that are about to collide with him so he is taking on Caroline duty. This allows Ariel and me to enjoy the faire without chasing after a very energetic two year old.
I am grateful for all the good wishes I received for my birthday along with the cool gifts.
