Take Me Out to the Ballgame....
Yes, the iBook is back! Glenn (gawd of computers) and his lovely wife Brandy (wearing a kicking leather jacket) returned it unto me on Friday. This is really the first time I have had to sit down and compose my thoughts due to the busy schedule we had this weekend which is melding over into today. Pictures are my next priority since I have a bunch from various activities over the past couple of weeks.
We are going to Opening Day at Shea. The Mets finally won one yesterday against the Braves. This gives them a record of 1-5. It is a good thing that they got the win before going into Shea considering the fan base they have. I hope they can build on this momentum or at least not lose by looking like junior little league in doing do. Some of the errors have been just horrendous to watch.
I-Con was a lot of fun. We spent time with old friends and made some new ones. Conventions that don’t travel from place to place and have been around awhile have a certain feeling to them. There are people I expect I will see at each of them. So I catch up on news, talk shop, and geek.
I-Con has a very nice hospitality area for guests. They serve food during the day along with lots of soda, juice, and water. They stock some stuff for the younger set so guests that are parents have things that their kids’ can/will eat. They gave me a run down on what was available when we arrived and I told them what she would and wouldn’t eat. This was nice because I didn’t have to pack a lunch for her and worry about her yogurt getting too warm since they had a nice selection of yogurt there. They also had lots and lots of Cheerios. I could keep Caroline fed and the room gave me an area to confine her to. It worked out well.
It was nice to catch up with Jewel and Matt. We hadn’t seen them since DragonCon. Jewel is starting to do the promotion work for Serenity which is the movie based on Firefly by Joss Weadon. We found the time to take them out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants that they enjoyed. Jewel is really happy with the close to final cut of the film. There is going to be a trailer which, as Matt put it, kicks ass in front of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and possibly in front of Hitchhikers. We also attended the Masquerade with them and had a lot of fun. Fun was the operative word for the weekend.
Scorpie went over very well. A lot of people looked at him and cracked up which is a good thing in my book. I build him not to be scary but to allow people the chance at a good giggle. Rockne O'Bannon thought he was good for a laugh. I lucked out that Joe Nazzaro, author of The Creatures of Farscape, was there when I met Mr. O’Bannon so I got an introduction rather than having to introduce myself. I took the puppet onto the dance floor and had a lot of fun. Funniest song had to be “Play that Funky Music.” Since Scorpie skin is very white, it made for some really fun during the chorus.
So Sunday we said our good-byes to I-Con. I went into the city to meet up with Peter to have dinner with Harlan and Susan Ellison and another couple. Harlan was in rare form so a good time was had by all. I like catching up with them from time to time. Harlan said that he was cutting his convention appearances down quite a bit over the next year or so. He and Susan would like to spend more time at home. Having seen their house, I understand why they would want to spend time there.
Now we will have to see if we can stay healthy. There was a crud that some people were getting over and others were just starting when the Con ended. I have a very scratchy throat this morning but I am hoping that it is due to the allergic reaction I had to someone’s perfume.
I am grateful for Baseball which has given me many a happy memory
