Learning to Jump
Caroline is learning to jump. She puts her legs on either side of one of the large bears and then proceeds to to squats until she starts to become airborne then the little feet pound the floor with happy rhythm. When she eventually falls forwards, she falls into the soft bear.
I managed to clear off my desk so it is usable again. These things tend to go in cycles around here. Right now I can use my desk and rest of the living room doesn’t look like a paper bomb hit it. The bush cuttings are correctly bundled for disposal. The Kitchen can be cooked in and the kitchen table is currently not a dumping ground for the family. So now I want to focus on other things. I need to do a short food shop for dinner and a few Caroline things like diapers which we are starting to run short on.
Tonight is the last night of the Ducks Bowling league for the season. Peter and Ariel are in the league. It is something fun to do for the summer. Also since this is the second season, we know a number of the families. A true sign that the summer is nearly over and school is about to start.
I have joined a list on Yahoo called Dragoncon Support. It is the beginnings of a good idea which will probably be rethought and expanded next year. There is no official affiliation with DragonCon. It is just a group of fans who want to help newcomers to the DragonCon experience. The basics of the group is that those that have been there before (the old hands) help the new attendees with all the stuff we have learned over the years of going to DragonCon. To help them avoid the mistakes we have all made and have someone they can ask questions to without feeling dumb. On line we had a list of do’s and don’ts, when the elevators at the Hyatt are impossible, bringing something to put water in since in the larger venues cups are very tiny or quickly disappear. We have talked about costume wearing and local restaurants. All kinds of things that for many of us are second hand but if it’s your first convention very important to know. DragonCon is one of the big ones spanning more than one hotel and it can be a little overwhelming.
I am grateful for the local sanitation department. I would hate to have to haul all my garbage to the dump.
