Kid's Stuff
The skies are clearing up and I think we are in for a crisp but sunny day. There are predictions of some possible snow showers for tomorrow but I am not holding my breath. I had two cats barfing this morning so I clean up the mess and then barfed myself but in the toilet rather than in the middle of the living room. What a way to wake up.
We watched Mary Poppins last night. It held Caroline’s attention for the most part. The movie still works even after 40 years. My favorite song is “I love to laugh”. Peter’s favorite song is “Steppin’ Time”. Ariel likes “Supercalifragolistic”. Caroline liked the sequences that had music in them. She almost fell asleep to “Feed the Birds”.
I took Caroline to a make up class at Mommy and Me since she was sick a couple of weeks ago. Her teacher noticed that Caroline is participating in circle time, just outside of the circle. We now have to convince her to participate in circle with the other kids. I am beginning to wonder if the older kids are intimidating her a bit. She is as big as most of them but they are more advanced in other things. I know she knows what the word ‘share’ means not that she always likes it. She also knows the difference between one and two. I was singing “5 little Monkeys” in the car and she was doing all the hand gestures that go with the song. She does that with “itsty bitsy spider” too but only when it is just she and I. Anyone else there and she refuses to do them.
I was going to try to get to 50,000 words on my novel by Dec. 31st. I don’t think I am going to make it. I haven’t done much since mid November. Part of it is that stuff keeps coming up and part of it is that I can’t seem to focus on it the way I should. Right now I am waiting to hear about a possible job that I really want and that seems to be in the back of everything I am thinking about. I haven’t been sleeping well either. Nobodies fault but it is not helping my peace of mind.
We saw “Finding Neverland” yesterday. It is a very well done film but bring tissues. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house by the end. Wonderful acting all the way around. The kids are brilliantly cast. The kid playing Peter will be Charley Bucket in the remake of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
There is a teaser trailer online for Wonka. It looks insane but I want to see it. Apparently we are going to delve into Wonka’s past since Christopher Lee is playing Wonka’s father. I don’t know if I am going to like that. I liked the way that Roald Dalh just had him there almost as a force of nature.
I am grateful for the work of Roald Dalh. I look forward to when I can share it with Caroline.
