New Who Review for the Caretaker
Nice to see an Earth-centric episode.
Not School Re-union but what can be?
Overall the acting was good. The interaction between the Doctor, Clara and Pink worked for me. Sets up some dynamics for the rest of the season.
Clara is finding out that if she wants it all, there are consequences to it.
The creature in this one is almost an after thought but it looked cool but the creature was not the point of the episode.
Nice dropping of references to previous things in the Who-nverse.
Overall would watch again just for the acting.
That the Doctor bonded with Courtney Woods who has been a thorn in the side of the teachers at the school says that Courtney has more on the ball than most and I think her rebellious side is more boredom than anything else. I did enjoy the proof that not everyone was meant for space travel. I also enjoyed the parent/teacher conference with her parents.
This is Clara trying to balance things and realizing that something is either gotta give or it’s going to give. When her Doctor world and her Real Life collide, she is given a look at what each means to her.
I like Danny Pink more and more. That the Doctor is not sanguine with Clara dating a soldier I think says more about the Doctor than Danny. Samuel Anderson had some of the heavy lifting in this one and did a great job.
Like I said, the creature in this one is secondary to the interaction between the humans and the Doctor. How each party deals with the information they are given was well written and acted.
And we have Missy back sort of with a policeman who is killed because of the Doctor being in the area. We all know this is going to come to a head at some point and I am betting Danny is a catalyst.
I am grateful for TV that entertains me.
